Dr Ali Farahani

Dr Farahani is a Clinical Reader (Associate Professor) in Orthodontics at Cardiff University, where he is actively involved in teaching future orthodontists. He treats a wide range of orthodontic problems, from mild cases to complex craniofacial anomalies that require orthognathic surgery as part of their treatment.

Dr. Farahani completed his three-year orthodontic specialty training at Cardiff University, earning a Master of Science in Dentistry (MScD) in Orthodontics and the Specialist Membership Diploma (MOrth RCS) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is also a proud alumnus of the University of Southern California (USC), where he pursued further training in Craniofacial Orthodontics. He completed the Craniofacial and Special Care Orthodontic Fellowship at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA), where he specialized in treating patients with severe craniofacial deformities requiring combined orthodontic and surgical care.
He completed a Master of Surgery (Minimally-Invasive Aesthetics) degree at University College London (UCL), where his thesis was published. Additionally, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), focusing his research on patients with dentofacial deformities.
Dr. Farahani has served as an academic at both the University of Birmingham and the University of Warwick. He has authored over 76 peer-reviewed publications and contributed to three book chapters. In addition to his research, he serves as a reviewer and sits on the editorial boards of several orthodontic and dental journals. Dr. Farahani also has a strong interest in implantology, having attended the USC School of Dentistry, where he earned his Certificate in Implantology.
He has been awarded a Research Scholarship from the European Orthodontic Society and a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. His research has been nominated twice for the prestigious William J.B. Houston Research Award (2009 and 2010).
Dr. Farahani’s clinical expertise includes the orthodontic treatment of both children and adults, with a special focus on cosmetic orthodontic solutions to help patients regain their confidence. He also provides complex restorative-orthodontic treatments for patients with multiple missing teeth and specializes in the management of dentofacial deformities requiring combined orthodontic and surgical care.
